...how to sew. It's true, while I so desperately wish I knew how to sew (at least be able to alter things), I actually have no idea how to do anything. Look at this skirt from a blog I just started following C&C

Hello Friends,

I don't know if ya'll remember (that's right, I am from California and I just said ya'll) but a few posts ago I mentioned that if you had any pictures of outfits you could easily transition from day to night I would love it if you could send them over. Much to my surprise, a few of you did, which is totally awesome (now that sounds a little more like I'm from California).

I hope you all had a splendid weekend! I had such a great time at the Kenny Chesney concert- I will make sure to post a few pictures later this week. I am awfully behind on my posts this week. Something about the warm San Francisco days I suppose :)

Do you like the foyers above? When I was on my way to work this morning I realized that the entryway in my apartment is a bit bland. The roomie and I put a runner and mirror in the space but we stopped there. I think I need to keep an eye out for decorative pieces because an entryway is one of the most important places in your house- it is the first and last part you see when coming and going from your home!

Do you guys have anything that you have done to your own entryway to make it look prettier?

Friends, I have some good news, I just found out that a few of my friends and I got accepted to run the Nike Women's Marathon this October in San Francisco. This will be the first 1/2 marathon I have ever run- in fact, I have never run more that 6 miles in my whole life! My dad says getting accepted was the easy part and I kinda agree. Man, it is going to be tough training to run this thing but at least I have plenty of time!

Do any of you run marathons? I would love some tips and ANY advice since I am basically going to learn as I go. I have already downloaded a few running apps for my iPhone and was told to sign up for 10k a a few months before the Nike race so I can get a feel for running a smaller race before the bigger one. But other than that, I am just running and taking spin classes a few days a week.

Hi Friends!

I hope you all are having a splendid week so far. Today has been a success for me! So, for the last year while I was living at home with my parents I have had my own car. Now that I have moved to the city, I literally have no place to park this car so it is sitting in the cozy driveway of my parents home. This is great for my car because it was getting trashed in the city, but totally sucks for me.

I am notorious for being late- in fact everywhere I go I am usually running 5-10 minutes behind- so having a car was great; I could pick and go whenever I pleased. Not so much anymore. My whole life is starting to focus on public transportation which requires punctuality, a characteristic I am going to have to force upon myself if I want to remain employed at my current position, etc.

Though this is embarrassing to admit, today was the first time (since I have moved) that I have caught the bus on time. Woo hoo! Let's celebrate, this is big haha.

The title of this blog post is a little misleading because I don't actually party hard. However, if I were the type of gal who liked to go out for cocktails after work (and not go home to watch my recorded episodes of Nate Berkus) I think that this dress would be a perfect transition from day to night, work to play.

With a cardigan, this dress is much more office appropriate (no shoulders showing at work) and it almost makes the outfit a little grandma-ish, which I love. Then, after work all you have to do is remove the cardigan and voila! Sexy shoulders and buttons down the back :)

Do you guys have any key outfit pieces you use when transitioning from day to night? I would love it if you guys could send me some pictures for inspiration! Hello Friends!

Is there anything better than rain-boots? I mean the different names for them alone (wellies or galoshes) makes them just adorable . I got my Hunter Wellies for Christmas this past year and didn't get to wear them until spring because we had a pretty dry winter. Thank God for living in SF- plenty of April showers!

Typically when I don my springtime galoshes, I tend to wear more casual attire like jeans and a rain coat. However, after discovering the blog Atlantic-Pacific, I was inspired by the different ways this lovely lady styled her wellies with dresses and skirts and wanted to try and do the same thing.

The only question I have, is how do you keep your Hunter Rainboots from getting that cloudy film on them? I love when they are bright and shiny but I find by mid-day they are looking a little dull...any suggestions would be great!

Today I woke up and for the first time since I have moved into my new apartment, I felt like I was home :) I'm pretty sure it's because I just got this new chest of drawers on Craigslist that I am literally obsessed with now.

For months, I have had clothes all over my floor because my closet was full and I didn't have any furniture to hold things like pajamas, socks & undies, workout clothes, etc.However, I wasn't willing to splurge on any old chest of drawers, I knew exactly what I wanted- fortunately this weekend I found it!

Here are some other pictures of my room. I know I still have more to do but it is definitely coming along.

I moved my chair to the other corner of my room. Love this decision- more room to walk around & now I can look out at my view of the Golden Gate Bridge while reading. I just need a pillow & a throw to complete the comfy factor of this chair.

Oh, & a lamp! This corner is pretty dark at night & that is usually when I read. I thought something like these lamps would work well for this corner & the limited space.

Sideview. Not very interesting but I thought I would share to give some perspective on size of my room.

I am not one of those people that likes 1,000 pillows on a bed but I want my room to look less put together & more comfortable. I feel like I can achieve that by replacing these shams with a patterned cover & then getting some more decorative pillows to add to the orange. I might even take one of the orange pillows out to make it look less like a catalog. Also, I bought this bed spread on Overstock when I had a full bed...I obviously need to upgrade to the appropriate size but I LOVE this duvet cover- I may need to buy the same one in a Queen.

I bought these lamps (and rug) at my local HomeGoods store & I absolutely love them. This is not at all what I was looking for ( I wanted either this lamp or this lamp from Anthropologie) but once I saw them I knew they would be perfect for my room. I actually think they look better than the Anthro ones- & they were much cheaper!

View from my bed. I don't know what else to do in this space since it is a doorway...maybe lower the birdcage? I think it may be a little too high.

Since I love this chest of drawers so much I really want to play it up & do more to decorate this corner of my room. I am thinking about getting a tall and narrow vase to go right by my door (maybe something like this?) & want to make sure I get enough books to fill up my "bookcase" with colorful, beautiful books. I have a few straw hats and am wondering if a a few hooks would look good on this wall or be too much? hmmm?

Lastly, I am so excited to find a vintage-looking mirror or photograph to put in this space. It will really complete the look of this corner & add a lot to the dresser. I want to add a few decorative knickknacks to put on top of my chest of drawers but I am not sure what I want yet. I think I need to sit on it a while so I don't buy things I do not need.

My life has been splendid lately...in fact I have been gone for about the last four weeks traveling for work (Orlando, Toronto, San Francisco, Atlanta, etc.) and all this traveling and time indoors from the rainy, spring weather has created this huge urge for me to do a little online shopping.

What's Cookin? Salsa Chicken

I am not sure if you guys are even interested in this, but I thought it would be fun to start sharing some of the recipes I make. You see, I am a very novice chef and I feel like if I can make something, you all can too! Let me know if this is something you guys would like me to start posting about regularly and I will make it happen (but only if you agree to share your simple/delish/lovely recipes too!)

Salsa Chicken
Literally the easiest crock pot recipe, ever.

Ingredients (serves 4)
-4 chicken breasts
-24oz Salsa of your choice (keep in mind it gets spicier the longer you cook- I typically choose mild)
-tortillas
-can of black beans
-avocado
-cheese or sour cream (if you like it- I leave this part out because I'm lactose)

Directions
-cover bottom of crock pot with a little bit of salsa
-place two chicken breasts in pot
-pour half of the salsa on top of chicken
-place the last two chicken breasts in the pot
-pour the rest of the salsa on top of chicken (make sure chicken is completely covered with salsa)
-cook on low heat for 8-10 hrs. (if you have used a crock pot before you know they are pretty fool-proof, so if your timing is off a bit you should still be fine!)
-once time is up, drain water from pot and change heat settings to "warm"
-place chicken and salsa on a warm tortilla and add beans, avocado, cheese, etc on top
-roll like a burrito or eat like a taco (depending on size of tortilla) and ENJOY!

Hello Friends!

I know I need a lot of work but here is my room so far! I figured I could take each picture and then photoshop different things in to see how it would look decorated in different ways.

The first thing I would like to add is a chest of drawers. The green chair in the first picture is covered in clothes (I cleaned it for the picture) and I would like to put them away soon.

I am a little torn where I will buy a chest of drawers because I found one that I think would be great from Ikea, but I am trying to not buy all my furniture from Ikea since it doesn't last very long (my end tables are both from Ikea) and I am also trying to prevent things from looking too matchy-matchy (since they would match my end tables). Here is the chest of drawers I am thinking of:

On my night stands that match this dresser from Ikea, I changed the nobs to these to make it look a little less Ikea-ish and I really like how it turned out. Maybe I can do the same for the dresser?

Hello Blogging World!

First off, I would like to apologize for neglecting my blog for almost a month. I'll admit, I totally FAILED...sorry :)

But I'd like to believe I have a few good reasons- I'm a new woman! Well, kinda... I actually hate that expression. It makes me think of life in the 1950's and buying a new shade of lipstick or something. My changes have been a little more profound- or so I hope.

First off, I reactivated my Facebook account. Now I KNOW how ridiculous this sounds but it was actually a really big step for me. I hate Facebook. My list of reasons why could probably be turned into a novel so I won't bother to list them here- but I did have a few positive reason's to add it back, which I'll share:

1. I did not have a good way to keep in touch with old college friends. When I first deleted my FB I thought I would just call people more and have "better and deeper" conversations with friends because it would be over the phone- but the truth is, sometimes there's a lot to be said about a quick note letting someone know you are thinking about them. AKA Facebook wall post.

2. I was meeting a lot of new people in the city who would coordinate events with friends on Facebook...meaning I was missing the memos/get-togethers because they had no way to send me an invite.

3. The last reason ties into my 2nd big life change:

I have FINALLY moved out of my parents house and into an apartment, in San Francisco, with a really fantastic roommate...who I found through Facebook (a friend of mine since junior high (let's call her "A") posted that her friend from college (let's call her "H") needed a roommate and a mutual friend of mine and A's found it on Facebook and passed to me...phew, what a confusing explanation!)

Anyway, the point is I am living on my own, once again, but this time for good- and with an awesome roomie. I can't tell you how good I feel about this life choice and I know I am going to finally feel like I am doing things on my own instead of relying on my family all the time. And please believe, I will be posting pictures of our cute little apartment as we start decorating!

The last life change, I am single for the first time since High School. Now most of you who follow my blog might be confused by this- "what you were dating someone? How come you never talked about it on your blog?". Well, great question. Honestly, I used to be really open about this kind of stuff in the past, but then I found that when I would break up with whoever I was dating at the time, everyone would know and want to talk about it with me- which I hate. I don't like to talk about things that are upsetting me, I never have.

The other reason, I felt like it made it more special keeping it to myself. I know a lot of people may not understand this, but I really liked knowing that I had one person in my life that was just for me- and that our time together was just for us. It was nice not having to talk about what we were doing all the time and show off- I could just enjoy every moment to myself. Maybe this is selfish, and I know this was always an issue for the BF, but it's really how I felt at this point in my life.

So to all of you who stuck around during the post-less month, thank you. I truly love all of my followers and I LOVE reading all of the sweet comments you guys post. I am beyond excited that life is settling down a bit and that I get to start reconnecting with all of you!

2011 Has Not Been Boring

Hello Blogging World,

Boy, it has been a long time! I won't say that I have been too busy to blog- because everyone is busy- but man 2011 has not been boring. In fact, the first three weeks of January have been absolutely crazy.

First, (as you all probably know) I had a family member pass away, then I had some weird pain/pressure on my right side that got so bad I went to Urgent Care but after a couple of ultrasounds and few blood tests found out that I am fine (woo hoo) and that I probably just had a small ovarian cyst or something- phew!

After all this happened I thought (and was hoping) things were going to slow down a bit but then I decided it is DEFINITELY time for me to find my own place (long, boring story) so I have been on a mad hunt looking for an apartment (or an open room) in San Francisco... and to top it off I got the stomach flu this past weekend, booo!

BUT this morning I woke up and decided that enough is enough, no more excuses! So here I am, posting on my blog, yay!

I do think it was good that I took some time off though. In fact, I was reading a bunch of blogs the other day and found a quote in a post that said, "You can do it all, just not at the same time". How great is that??? I think sometimes we, especially women, feel the need to do it all and be "superhuman", but no one can live like that all the time!

Is there anything you guys let fall to the wayside when you are really busy? Have you ever felt like you have to do it all?

I hope you all have been having a nice weekend :) My weekend was super boring and uneventful but a couple fun things did happen:

1. I did my laundry- now this probably does not sound that exciting but with everything that has been going on in my life lately, I haven't had time or been up to doing laundry. I was out of socks and underwear...but no more, I have clean clothes!

2. I discovered The Nate Berkus Show. Oh my goodness, this show is perfection! If you like seriously attractive men and fabulous interior design then this show is for you. I am now obsessed!

3. My mom gave me this great bracelet. Isn't it cute? I love it! Aren't moms the best? They always know how to cheer you up and make your day! By the way, don't look at my nails, I know they are disgusting. In fact, I am giving myself a much needed manicure after I publish this post...

Hello Friends,

In my last post I mentioned I had some stuff going on that have prevented me from posting as often as I normally do. Something happened with my family and it has taken me a while before I felt comfortable talking about it.

You see, a few days after Christmas my Aunt died unexpectedly. I thought about not saying anything because I don't want anyone to feel bad or sorry for me, but I want to be honest with you guys and myself- and I felt like I was cheating if I left it out. I am not asking for sympathy, but rather I would like to celebrate my aunt by telling a little bit about who she was and why I loved her so much.

My Auntie Ann moved to Mexico (Rosarita Beach) when her daughter (my cousin) was very young. She loved the ocean and had a beautiful white house right on the water.

My favorite memories of her to this day are actually when I used to go down to Mexico and stay with her for a week or two in the summer. She would pick me up in San Diego and then drive me back to her house in Rosarita, where we would change into pajamas, sit in her bed, and stay up until 2 in the morning talking to each other. I would bring pictures of my friends and "boyfriends" and tell her stories about all of them. Then she would tell me stories about her life. I remember always thinking it was so fun to have an adult who totally understood me and that could stay up so late talking to me...then the best part was that we would sleep in late the next day and do it all over again!

My Auntie Ann was amazing because she would always encourage me to try new things and be a strong person. There was one trip in particular where she would take me to a different restaurant every night and suggest that I try something new on the menu like ostrich mole, green-sauce on an egg enchilada, or a coconut with chili powder and lime juice- yummy!

She also pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and had me stay with a family in Mexico for the day. I will never forget how nice that family was; they didn't speak any English (and I didn't speak any Spanish) but they welcomed me with open arms and made me feel safe and comfortable in their home.

Besides being a great Aunt to me, Auntie Ann was the most caring person I have ever met- even to animals. In fact, she loved animals so much that she would rescue dogs off the streets in Mexico (if you have ever been you know there are A LOT), fix them up at the vet and even take some of them home. I would always laugh because when my family would go visit her she would have a HUGE tub of dogfood sitting outside of her house so all of the hungry, stray dogs in Mexico would have food :)

I will miss my Auntie Ann dearly and will always cherish the memories of her white house in Mexico, the starfish all over the sand, trying (and loving) new food, late nights of talking, encouraging phone calls after college, and how she was kind to every single person in her life.

Holy moly, is it as cold where you live as it is here in San Francisco? Man... I froze my little booty off today! I had a lot of things to do tonight but it was so darn cold all I could do was sit in bed blogging and watching TV- lame I know. I feel like such a baby too since I was just in Colorado with below freezing temperatures. But there's something about living in California where you are never prepared for cold weather- even if it's only 40 degrees, which is nothin! We're softies.

Hello Friends!

So I have a random question for you all... if you could live anywhere in the World (like if you didn't have to worry about things like money or family) where would you live?

I would live somewhere in the South! In fact, I am really feeling a pull to go back again- last year I went on a three-week road trip with my dad from Texas to South Carolina, and everywhere in between. My dad is actually from Monroe, LA and I think that's why I felt so "at home" in the South- I have southern roots!

Picking a place to live in the South would be tough because I love the small town, slow-paced lifestyle, but I also am used to city living... so if I had to narrow this down a little more, I would move to Nashville, TN :) Have you guys ever been? It's lovely.

Since my trip with my dad I have always said I would move there someday, but I am not sure I ever will. My family is really important to me and I don't know if I could ever live so far away from them- BUT if they ever feel this "wanderlust" that I have had deep inside of me all of my life, I would surely encourage everyone to move to the dixieland :)

BTW, if you are from the South, I am so jealous!

Hello Lovelies!

How are you all doing today? I don't mean to sound so pessimistic in my blog title but one of my colleagues tweeted this saying today- and I totally feel it! Man, it really feels like Monday all over again. Probably doesn't help that I am super sleepy (an early bedtime is sooo needed tonight), we had our marketing meeting today (we usually have it on Mondays), and I dressed up for the meeting (normally I dress down on Tuesdays).

But no worries because tomorrow is Wednesday and then we will be halfway to the weekend. I. Can't. Wait. Do you guys have any tricks to get you through the week after a holiday vacation? I always feel like it is so tough getting back into the swing of things.

I hope you all had a lovely holiday and a exciting New Year's. I went to Colorado and visited with friends from college- so much fun! I miss it out there, but let me tell you it was freezing. And of course I packed for California weather so I pretty much wore one outfit (jacket and boots) the whole time I was there... hence the reason for no outfit pictures.

Hello Friends!

I cannot believe that Christmas Eve is in two days. It's weird, because normally I cram to get everything done last minute but this year I finished everything early. What. a. concept... Any-who, all I have left to do is hang out and enjoy the Holiday Season. Oh and work, I have to do that too :)

Yesterday was such a treat, one of my favorite co-workers (she's probably the nicest and most genuine person at my company) took me to this little cafe that was playing Christmas music in the background and we sat in front of the fireplace to eat lunch and she taught me how to knit. It was so much fun and really put me in the Christmas spirit.

Then, after work I met up with my mom and we got manicures and pedicures- my fav! I usually only get pedicures for special occasions and manicures about once a year, but since I have been hearing about this new Shellac Nail thing, we both wanted to give it a try. If you haven't heard of it yet it is this type of nail polish that supposedly lasts about 2-3 weeks and does not chip, crack, or wear off. Today it looks great (as it should) but I will let you know how it holds up through the holidays.

1. What were you doing ten years ago?
I was just starting out in high school! The fact that high school was 10yrs ago makes me want to cry but it is really interesting how many things are still the same for me; I am still trying to figure out who I am and what I want to do with my life. A lot of things have changed too, like I am finally comfortable in my own skin... and there's a lot less drama :)

- Find a stocking stuffer for my brother
- Get a manicure and pedicure (I literally only get them like every 6 months so I am VERY excited)

Do you notice anything different? My brother helped me design a new look for my blog, and I love it! He is so much better at HTML, CSS, and all that web stuff than I am, and since he is home from college for the holidays I asked him to help me :) I had no idea how long all of this stuff takes though and we were literally up until 4:15am on Saturday (or technically Sunday?) working on it, but I feel it was well worth it... I hope you all like it too!

I hope you all are having a nice week so far :) I have a fun question for you guys...what is the best present you have ever received? Was it for Christmas? Just because?

My mom and I were talking today and somehow it came up that my brother ALWAYS gives me the best presents. He is so thoughtful and tends to really think outside the box. But the best gift I have ever gotten by far is the present my brother gave me when I graduated college.

I really like this band called Say Anything...in fact I was pretty much obsessed with them my last two years of college. Anywho, my bro contacted the lead singer of this band, Max Bemis, and asked him to write a song for me. Max agreed and had a few email conversations with my bro to figure out what he should write the song about- and that's how the song "Katelyn" was created :) How freakin sweet is that?!?!?

This past weekend really put me in the Christmas spirit :) First, I watched It's a Wonderful Life with my parents and then I went Christmas shopping with my mom.

I actually have a confession to make...this was the first time I have ever watched It's a Wonderful Life all the way through. After watching it, I understand that this should actually be a crime, and I have no idea why it has taken me 24 years to figure this out! I HIGHLY recommend watching this movie if you have never seen it before- I promise you will feel all warm and mushy inside :)

I am so sorry I have been absent the last few days. My company attended one of the biggest software conferences ever and I was in charge of all of the events- holy crap it was so stinkin busy! I have to admit, I was not able to wear any of my 30 For 30 clothes because we had a dress code that didn't include my pieces- sad panda, I know...but my remixing days were just on hold and I will finish out my last few outfits starting tomorrow!

I have to say, I miss blogging! I miss reading all your guys' blogs and your sweet comments too. I decided to recreate an outfit I wore a few weeks ago- but never posted because it was only for a few hours- just so I could get a post in this week :)

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Saturday I was a total bum and only got out of bed to eat...but I made up for that today because I had to go to work....poopy! My company is attending the biggest software event of the year and so I had to meet with my marketing department to finish setting up.

Have you ever tried to do something nice for someone and then it totally just doesn't work out? Today, before going to work, I went to go get some coffee from Noah's Bagels. It was pouring rain and I saw these two homeless men who looked to be about my age- I felt terrible because it was freezing outside. While buying my coffee I got the idea to order two more for the two homeless men outside....but when I came out with the extra coffee they were no longer there. Darn it!

Well no big deal, I thought, I will bring the two extra coffee's to my two co-workers I was meeting with in a few minutes. Good idea right? Nope, one of the two co-workers doesn't drink caffeine, and I totally forgot! AHHHHH!

So now that I am coming up on the end of this challenge, I have realized there are a few things in my closet that I need. Well, maybe not need but definitely want! The first on my list: colored tights.

After moving to San Francisco I discovered the awesomeness (I know this is not a word but I skipped the coffee today and my brain is slow...) of black tights. However, I have not yet upgraded to colored tights and after looking at all the other remix posts I realized that a lot of outfits look 1,000 times better with a pop of color. Don't you think burgundy tights would look so much better with this dress?

The other things I feel like I could use a bit more of are belts and jewelry. I am terrible at picking both out, hence the reason for having very few of each in my closet.

What do you guys feel like you could use more of in your closets?

Hello Blog Friends!

Today is a good day because it's my dad's b-day and then mine is tomorrow. I was NOT looking forward to having my 24th birthday until the last few days. It's funny, I just thought my life would be so much different than it is now. I never imagined that I would have to move back home with my parents after living on my own in San Francisco, that I would not at least be in the process of getting married, and working at my current company/position. It's not that these things are bad- they just weren't in the plans...at all.

I read a blog post that really made me feel better about getting another year older and not having my life work out that way I thought it should after college. If you have time, you should read it. It talks about how sometimes we feel like God isn't listening but that He is and this is what he's saying (quoted from the post):

“I know, my son, I know. I know, my daughter, I know. That thing you wanted is not going to happen. Not the way you’ve always dreamed. I know this hurts. I know this stings. I know you feel like I am distant or not aware of where you are and who hurt you and what you think life was supposed to be like. I know in moments like this you doubt that I can count the hairs on your head or have your best in mind. But please, I am not done. I have barely started to reveal your life to you. I am the God who satisfies your desires with good things. That is me! And when it comes to your hopes and your fears and your dreams, I know, my son, I know.”

Being reminded that God IS listening and actually making my life better than I ever would have been able to plan, makes me grateful for another year of life and all that God is going to bring.

How is everyone doing this fine Monday night? Equally important, how are all the participants doing in the 30 for 30 challenge? I was having a pretty hard time with it this past weekend. You see, I bought a lot of winter clothes right before the challenge, and now I am dying to wear them :( I also am just getting sick of wearing the same things over and over again.

This morning I felt a bit better when I put this outfit together...I totally forgot I included this sweater in my remix wardrobe, and when I found it I didn't even care how cold it was today- I had to wear it because it was something different!

This weekend my mom threw my dad a surprise party for his 55th birthday. My dads birthday is the day before mine so for years we have always celebrated together and then I have had a party. My dad does so much for my family that this year my mom wanted to do something special just for him :) We got our close family friends together and decided to go GoKart Racing- and believe me when I say this type of kart racing was intense! Everyone had to wear racing gear and sit through an instructional video. The cars all went about 45MPH which totally freaked me out- I got 6th place out of 7!

After car racing we had BBQ, my dads favorite food, then went to a restaurant/bar downtown to watch and dance to live music. It was sooo much fun and I loved getting to see my parents dance together all night; sometimes I forget they can be fun :)

Hello Lovely Blogger Ladies!

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and holiday weekend! Mine was great :) I got to spend a lot of time with family and friends, ate a ton of food, decorated for X-Mas, and slept all day today. Couldn't have ask for a better 4 days!

One of my good friends turned 26 on Friday. She's from Sacramento which is about an hour and a half away from the Bay Area but the drive was totally worth it! It was so good to see my friend- we all went out to sushi (my FAV!!!) with her parents and then to a couple dive bars with just the friends. I love dive bars! Plus, people in Sacramento are so nice, it was such a great time!

I know my jacket is not apart of my 30 for 30 items, but I don't care, it's stinkin cold! AND I love it :)

Although I grew up in California, I went to college in Colorado. While I was living there for four years, I absolutely hated the cold weather and the snow! I moved back to California the morning after I graduated and swore I would never go back, except to visit. Now, I feel like kicking myself because I miss it sooooooooooooooo much! I love that I got to move back and be closer to my family, but some days all I want to do is be back in Colorado- snow and all :)

I think California knew I was feeling this way, so it decided to freeze last night and all day today. In fact, we had emergency frost warnings on TV, panicking all of the SF Bay Area, which I think is hysterical! It's always funny to me that when a State, like California, experiences weather that is not typical for the area, but IS common for other places, we still freak out. Like the frost and freezing temperatures last night; the news kept telling people to bring in their plants and animals, and to make sure to stay inside for warmth. This would never be on the news in Colorado :)

Sick... I need to work out so I stop slouching :P

Do you ever have one of those days where you decide to try something different to your hair and it just works out? Today was my lucky hair day! I really did not feel like washing my hair this morning because it is freezing out and my hair is feeling a little crunchy on the ends, so I opted to pull it back sans shower instead. I have been wanting to try a do' like this, this, or this...and I think I succeeded!

Side note- this will NEVER happen again :)

Hello bloggy friends!

How was your Monday? My day flew by which is always appreciated :) I wanted to go running when I got home (weird, I NEVER feel like working out) but it was so dark and cold I decided it would be safer to stay inside and create wish lists for my birthday and Christmas. Obviously not as productive but way more fun!

I have also been reading this new blog I found, 5 Questions. For those of you who have never seen it before, you should check it out. The woman who created it asks different people, primarily women, 5 questions- and they answer them; it's as simple as that! I love it because all those featured are just a regular people but have their own stories and share a little piece of their lives. I love stuff like this...getting to know people and making connections. It's what life's all about :)

Hello all my dear blog friends!

Thanksgiving week is upon us :) That's right, in a few shorts days we will all be gathering with friends and family to stuff our faces full of delicious food. Thanksgiving has got to be one of my favorite holidays because of the food and traditions. My favorite: baked yams with TONS of marshmallows, brown sugar and butter...oh....my...word! I cannot wait to enjoy this feast.

A few years ago my dad also started this tradition that I absolutely adore. Everyone, at one point in the night, has to say why they are thankful for another person in the room. You can't say the same person twice so that everyone gets something nice said about them. To kick this off, my dad picked my mom and told the most hilarious story!

You see, my mom is the type of the grocery shopper that always buys certain items whether she needs them or not, because she can never remember if she has them at home...the result? A freezer full of nuts. You read that correctly, nuts.

My dad told everyone this story about my mothers obsession with buying nuts, then proceeded by giving her a nightlife covered in nuts. Of course everyone was confused, but my dad justified his homemade creation by telling everyone he was thankful my mom was always prepared and that she brought "light" to our lives in doing so. Awwww, makes you smile huh?

There's nothing better than reading and drinking yummy coffee on rainy weekends :) Oh and watching a few movies and only ordering take-out doesn't hurt either. Hello all you beautiful bloggers!

I hope everyone has had a nice weekend so far. It poured in here in San Francisco allllllll weekend. In fact, I went wine tasting yesterday, and was not able to take any pictures of my outfit because we got caught in the rain on the way home and I was completely soaked. Oh man, such a bummer! But once we were inside and in warm pajamas it was pretty funny :)

In my last post I told the story of how our neighbors cat comes to visit my parents house almost everyday. Well, he ended up showing his sweet kitty face during my last 30 for 30 photo shoot. Since everyone wrote such nice comments and liked the story of our semi-adopted cat, I thought I would show some more pictures.

On another note, I love fruit trees! My parents have had fruit bearing trees the whole time we have lived in this house and it has been so nice to just go in our back yard and grab some food. Now we just have the lemon tree which is a huge hit because we share all of our extra lemons- and as you can see from the pictures, we have a lot!

The Story of How My Family Stole a Cat

Ok, so we didn't actually steal a cat... we just borrow him... everyday :)

My family never had pets growing up because my brother and I were severely allergic to all animals, but that has never stopped us from wanting one. A few years back one of our neighbors got a kitten and when they decided to let it outside we occasionally would see him in our backyard. It was really fun for us- remember we never had any pets- so we would go outside and pet him.

One day my mom got the idea to start feeding it treats because he was just so gosh darn cute! Now this cute little kitten is an animal after all, and when you feed animals, even the smallest of treats, they learn to come back everyday... and for over two years now that is exactly what the cat has done. He comes by our backdoor until someone lets him in our house and gives him a treat.

The funny part about this story is that we actually gave this cat a "name", Kitsy (I know, we are so creative) and our pantry is now always stocked with cat treats. But that's not even the best part; a year ago we actually put him in our Christmas picture- see below:

Hahaha I know this is a ridiculous story but I love the fact that we have a part-time pet. In fact, all of our friends have "met" him when they have come over, and now look forward to seeing him too. We don't actually know what neighbor the cat belongs to (we have a huge neighborhood with a lot of hills) but they can be assured, that when they are away from home, we are taking great care of their dear little kitty, Kitsy.

I am aware that this picture looks like something from a department store magazine circa 1990-something. For some reason I was really tired today and had a hard time getting inspired during my daily photo shoot. I hate to say that I have been busy- because most people are- but it's been a little insane lately. The good thing is tomorrow is Friday and in no time the weekend will be here :)

So with that, I am off to bed to get more sleep. Short and sweet, like I promised!

Hello bloggy friends! I hope Monday treated everyone well and that Tuesday proves to be even better. Thanks for all the great feedback on better poses for my blog. I really do love the comments everyone leaves and even though I don't always have time to write back, I do read all of them!

So let's talk about pockets: basically, if a skirt or a dress has pockets, I will probably buy it. I don't know what it is, but I think it's because when I am in a social setting I sometimes feel weird if I don't have anything to do with my hands- the solution? Pockets.

Is there a detail or characteristic that you love and look for when you go shopping?

Oh here's a fun little tip! I follow the ModCloth blog and for a post they gave different style bloggers the same dress and had them all style it their own way. Besides being able to see a number of fun ways to wear the dress they chose, a few of the ladies put a skirt over the dress to create a new outfit. I would have never thought do do this before but it totally works as long as the dress is shorter than the skirt- see above.

30 for 30: On to the Next One

We are now officially on week 2 of the 30 for 30 Remix Challenge. For those of you participating, how has it been going so far? I think the first two weeks are going to be pretty easy and that the third week will be the hardest.

It's kind of like running a mile in high school; the first half isn't too bad, then you feel like your legs are going to fall off, and right when you feel like you are going to pass out... your legs go numb and you finish up like a champ! If you work out regularly you will not know what I am talking about.

Happy Friday Bloggers, we made it through another week! Before I go out and enjoy my weekend I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who has been apart of my blog in the last few weeks. It's embarrassing how late I am on posting my picks! Good Morning Bloggers!

I was going to head into work today but in addition to be being pretty sick (darn colds!) the bridge that I take into work was closed down because of a security threat. Thankfully everything is okay but traffic is still a nightmare!

So now I am working from home which is nice because I can update my blog at lunch! And wear pajamas all day...anyway, this is the outfit I was going to wear to work if I had gone in to the office. I wanted something comfy and warm so I chose this sweater with black stretchy pants. I am still wearing the top part (sans necklace) but I have traded my bottoms for my brothers old sweatpants :)

Anything with bird on it, especially home decor, I love and want to buy. Someone asked me why I like birds so much and I don't really have a good answer, I just do. I think they are lovely :)

I have a fantastic co-worker, Bryte (great name huh!), and she very kindly agreed to take my picture today so I wouldn't have to go home and take it in the dark. Thanks Bryte! I think it looks so much better :) Today was a good day. I was sick and didn't feel 100%, but it was one of those days where everything worked out and I was surrounded by all colleagues I really enjoy- love it!

Hello blogging ladies!

I hope all of my fellow remixers had a fantastic day with their first outfits! How fun it has been peeking at all the clothes when I have a few minutes to spare at work :)

Today was exhausting! I woke up at 5:30am (an hour later than I was supposed to wake up thanks to my lovely iPhone), got ready in the shortest amount of time ever, and was at work from 7am to 7pm- literally! And on my feet the whole time too- boo!

But now I am home and laying in bed so all is well in the world. It was actually nice having my outfits already picked out because it saved me so much time getting ready this morning. The "30 for 30" challenge is already working it's magic!

The first two days of this challenge include a work event where I have to wear business casual attire. I thought about starting on Wednesday to not have to include a suit but I think it actually works well for me because I always have to wear business appropriate clothing at trade-shows and conferences.

Today, I wanted to be a little more comfortable so I paired my Gap striped t-shirt with my Express suit and NineWest heels. I know it is a little simple but I liked the way it turned out. And when I was fresh and cute this morning (unlike now, sick...) I had a really lovely shade of red lipstick to add a little bit of a punch!

30 for 30 Remix

Hello fellow bloggers and remixers! I am so excited for this challenge to start...I have picked out my 30 items of clothing, made a makeshift clothes line (I'll explain later haha), and even put together some outfits in my head.

There is one thing missing though, I have not taken any pictures of my 30 pieces of clothing and it is now 11:42pm... and I have to wake up at 4:30am for a work event.

You see, I am in Event Marketing and have to travel/work on the weekends- this was one of those weekends. So instead of oh, I don't know, maybe planning ahead, I decided to do everything today, boo :(

Now I am stuck with the "going to class without the paper I was supposed to write" feeling. Well, that is a bit dramatic, since this is just a fun challenge and school is way more stressful and unpleasant, but I am disappointed that I can't showcase my choices tonight! I will however, post my picks on Wednesday (after my work event) and I PROMISE I will stick to my 30 for 30 pieces of clothing.

Until then, take a look at my clothesline I created just for this challenge: I needed a way to keep my 30 for 30 clothes separate from the rest of my closet...see I'm trying ;)

Do you want to know how much money I spend on clothes? Well I'm not going to tell you because it's embarrassing. I have a problem...seriously! Like I said in the title :)

I have been wanting to cut back and try and not buy anything for a while but I have never really given it a wholehearted try...kind of like how I keep saying I want to work out, but haven't since I graduated college. Shoot, that's embarrassing too...

Well it's all about to change! Starting Monday, November 8th I will be participating in Kendi's, from Kendi Everyday, blog challenge called, "30 for 30". There are only 3 rules:

1. Pick out 30 items from your closet.

2. Remix the 30 items into 30 or more outfits.

3. No shopping for 30 days.

I will be posting the 30 pieces of clothing I am choosing for the challenge tonight and will then proceed to post every outfit I create and wear for the full 30 days. And if it's not too ambitious, maybe I will work out everyday this month too. Or not.

When I got dressed this morning I started with pink shoes. Then I added this pinkish-purple sweater, the pink flowers and finally the pink necklace. Obviously my weekend partying in Seattle has impaired my judgment, or the rain made me crave bright and cheery colors, either way, at least one pink thing had to go. I haven't worn these striped zebra flats in almost a year so it was a good switch to make. Also, when I jumped into Lake Washington my ankle hit the ladder going off the dock and has been killing me! It's all swollen and a gross purpley-bruised color. Heels were simply not an option today, but pink was- clearly :)

Halloween in Seattle

I had soooo much fun in Seattle with my brother this weekend! As soon as I got in on Friday, my bro and one of his best friends and roommates (our neighbor growing up), picked me up for the airport and we went back to their apartment where the two of them and ten other guys live.

I was in a sorority in college so I was positive that I would be prepared to stay at my brothers fraternity live-out house, but oh man was I wrong! I don't know if I just forgot or never noticed in college, but 21/22 year old boys are gross! haha...

Anyway, after arriving at what my brother calls "The Sand Castle House" I quickly got in my lobster costume and we left for a party at Pike fraternity. Since this was my first time in a Greek Life house since June of 2009, I felt a little out of place. The best part about the trip was that I would talk to girls (current Gamma Phi's, yay!) who were 19 years old and they were so surprised that I was 23- they thought I was old :( Since I'm in the working world now I usually get comments on how young I am so it was an interesting change to be the oldest person around...I really, really, really do NOT want to turn 24!

After the party we headed out the bars, a scene I am much more comfortable with, and had a few drinks. My brother had the funniest costume I have ever seen. He was Vince, the pitchman who sells "Sham Wows" and the "Slap Chop", and one of his roommates was Billy Mays. Everyone knew who they were and kept repeating phrases from the infomercials: "If you call in the next 30 seconds...you following me camera guy...you'll love my nuts..."

The most hilarious part of the whole night was after the bars, we stopped by this park that had a great view of the city and the water. I was the only girl with all of my brothers friends so of course they didn't know that by making me go to this park with them that I would almost destroy my new back pumps, but the journey was totally worth while.

After taking a look at the amazing view of Seattle, my brother and his roomie, the one who was dressed up as Billy Mays, found this random couple trying to have a romantic night looking at the views, and started acting like the characters they were dressed up as- I can't tell if the couple was just completely confused or genuinely frightened of my bro and his friend because they didn't move :) Like I said, the journey was totally worth a dirty pair of pumps.

To make me feel even more like an old person, I passed out at 3am on Friday night. Now, to a normal 23+ year old person who works a 9-5 desk job this sounds pretty late and reasonable for bedtime on a holiday, however, my bro and his roomies definitely stayed up until 5am in the morning. HOLY CRAP! The last time I stayed up that late I was a Junior in college and got sick the day after. And to top it off, we woke up to techno music blasting at 7am...thank God that only lasted for a few minutes :)

We did wake up a few hours later to get ready for the party my brothers house was throwing for the UW vs Stanford game. They bought a couple kegs and I actually drank beer! I never even drank beer in college haha. The party lasted for a few hours and then my brother helped me sneak into the actual game on campus. It was pouring rain the whole time so we only stayed for the first quarter but I am so glad we did! It was great to see my brother's school a little more and I really did enjoy the game and the rain.

After the game we went home to take a nap (thank God) and then went to get some dinner just the two of us. It was really nice to just sit and talk with my brother and catch up in a non-partying atmosphere. I love my brother so much and like to hear what's going on in his life. He's doing really well in school, having a wonderful time with friends, and has really come into his own. College has definitely been good for him :)

Two appetizers and two main courses later (I know, we are total fat kids) we went back to my brothers house to have a "mellow night-in". And by mellow I mean two very, very minor car accidents, a whole keg, singing and dancing to rap music, and my favorite part of the night- Lake Washington. That's right folks, at 3am in the morning, in freezing cold Seattle in the fall, I jumped in Lake Washington with a few of my brothers friends. Ahhhhh! It was so much fun!

When I graduated college I moved from CO to CA, stopped going to school, got a job, had a new group of friends, broke up with my boyfriend of 4 years, moved in with my parents, moved out to San Francisco...etc. and I really feel like all these changes made it hard for me to know who I am. I have actually really been struggling with what I like to call my quarter-life-crisis this whole year and jumping in the lake helped me feel like my old self again. I know it sounds strange, but I used to be really spontaneous and I was always the first one to go along with people doing crazy things... and I haven't done anything like that in a very long time.

All in all, this weekend was one of the best weekend I have had in while. I hope everyone else had a great Halloween weekend too! Any fun stories to share?
